Along with harassment issues on the rise…
70% of our workforce is already disengaged,
and many of them disgruntled.

Illinois has legalized concealed carry and medical marijuana!
Feel safe in your workplace?

In a recent study, 70% of employees are already disengaged. Are you one of them? Now lets add concealed carry and medical marijuana to already disgruntled employees. Further according to the EEOC, we do not have a good handle on harassment yet. Are you thinking what I am thinking?

The recent bullet around the water cooler is that IL now has legalized guns on a person and medical marijuana. What does that mean for your workplace? And how does it affect you and your business?

But lets not forget what we haven’t addressed yet. In addition to the new, we still have to address all the other employment issues that are NEVER going away… We have new stuff to worry about, but that doesn’t change the fact that the dollars spent on harassment are still rising. According The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) statistics, EEOC Stats Millions of dollars are still being spent on harassment in the workplace. Reason is companies have not taken the time to get to the root of the problem. Instead, employers find that it saves time to put an employee behind a desk and point and click on what harassment OBVIOUSLY is. But this type of training doesn’t engage employees on “WHAT COULD BE” and ineffective training, may save time, but it doesn’t help your bottom line in the end.

I’ll leave you with this; since we have witnessed the numbers, and numbers say enough, they also tell us that difficult situations such as harassment are not being addressed appropriately. Are you concerned that it will be the same with concealed carry and medical marijuana? Lets put it this way training is typically the first item to be put as the bottom of priorities.

VRC cannot prevent these issues from happening, but we can help you be prepared for when they do.

What to do:

Concealed Carry – Is now legal for individuals with a permit to carry a handgun on their person.  Does your place of employment allow employees and visitors to carry a firearm into the establishment?  Have you created a policy for your employee handbook?

If you’ve elected not to allow guns on the premise you MUST do the following:

  • Obtain and post the proper signage at ALL entrances
  • Create a company policy that covers this topic
llinois REQUIRES a specific sign to be displayed at
every entrance. If you are going to ban guns from your facility.  The sign must also be a specific size, dictated by the Illinois State Police.  VRC has created an alliance with Mark Your Space, Inc. They are our preferred vendor with available signs and can usually be shipped within 24 hours.

Medical Marijuana – If you haven’t yet crafted your company policies for this, you may want to consider doing so. We can also assist in writing the policy and procedure to assure compliance.

Harassment Prevention – Conduct effective annual training and engage employees. Be sure to have a policy and procedures of what to do if harassment occurs. The link below to see what VRC is doing to prevent harassment in the workplace:
